Yuvan Shankar Raja's concert on Vijay TV!!!

While watching Yuvan's concert programme on Vijay TV two days back, my first thought was to rant about this on my blog! I wonder why his concert fiasco had to be shown on TV! Vijay TV is predominantly renowned for its TV shows jamboree, and for this "Yuvan concert," its needless to say!

The concert wasn't like a concert after all, rather it was more like a drama. That was pretty obvious when Yuvan droned about why actor/superstar/singer/director etc Simbu couldn't show up for the concert even after he invited him. Then all of a sudden Simbu shows up with hundreds of security guards flocked around him (Like someones gonna shoot him! Well, there are chances, cuz of his extreme acting!!!) and eventually after all the dramatics, he came to center of the stage on a moveable dais on the traverse stage (something like a conveyor belt). He was waving his hands (like a superstar! Oh gross! You know him!!) as this piece of stage moved to the center. He got down and started explaining why he wasn't able to come (the reason was that he had cold! God, Kill me!!!) and explained how he managed to show up planning it all in the last minute! Wow. Wonderful! For me he seemed like he was in the pink of health and seemed like he was planning this for days. Yuvan is good with music but worst in acting! He couldn't give that "surprised" expression on his face. It was more like a drama. Both Simbu and Yuvan isn't all good in singing when it comes to a live show. Now I admire the work of all the latest technologies in his songs, like auto tune and stuffs. Kudos!

Apart from all these dramatics, singers did their part real good. I loved Shankar Mahadevan's "Merke Merke" song performance. The aalap he sang at the end of the song was out of words to appreciate. Whenever a singer takes the stage, a fake cheering was played at the background (The fake cheering was pretty obvious! Hail Vijay TV!!!)

I wonder why Yuvan chose to sing "Where is the party" at the end. All the singers got on stage and sang "Where is the party" with Yuvan in the middle. Everyone was running around the stage, jumping off the stage, running towards the audience, lightmen, etc. For a moment, i was like "what the fuck is happening?" I called my friend Ram Vittal to know what the hell is really happening but even he was equally confused. Being his show, Yuvan wasn't lionized and seemed like he was mobbed. Then luckily they realised it was Yuvan's concert and he was lifted up by everyone. My friend on the other side of the phone was like "Shit macha.. Semma sothappals."

I never felt like watching a concert but it was more like watching Super Singer finals. As I've been to two of my thala Rahman's concerts, this one felt nothing (Obviously! Rahman is Rahman!!!!). People were orderly sitting and waving some posters unlike a real concert. I think the events were not properly planned and organized.

Yuvan, having been taken a step to prove himself, has to be appreciated. I wish he doesn't screw up (this bad) next time. All the best Yuvan!!!

Vinnaithandi Varuvaya album review.

Aaoromale- Awesome guitar work. I loved the style of the song. Its so different with a feel of rock and lot of blues style backing. Alphons Joseph has sung really well. One of the best track in the album.

Anbil Avan- Devan and Chinmayi has sung it. Hard synth and mridhangam is an awesome combo. Rahman proves once again that he is the best. Felix Mendelssohn's Wedding March comes in between, soon after which our very own Mangalyam music takes over with strings and chorus. The song ends with church organ and mridhangam backing the song.

Hosanna- I've become a fan of Vijay Prakash soon after listening to Manmohini Moore from Yuvvraj. Vijay Prakash is an excellent choice for this song. Blaaze's rap was unusual as usual. Suzanne D'Mello's backing vocals singing "Hosanna" was remarkable. This song was released long back in the internet and i believe was also the song which created great interest among Rahman fans to buy this album. One of the best track in the album.

Kannukkul Kannai- Ultimate violin, electric guitar and cello combo in the song. Nice song with Naresh Iyer rendering his voice. I keep listening to this song again and again just for the violin-electric guitar-cello combo. Its just super.

Mannipaaya- One of the best in the album. I loved the chords in the song. A. R. Rahman & Shreya Ghoshal would have sung really well. I like the part when Rahman sings "Urugi Urugi.." and there is a lapse in the beat (or a slightly different beat pattern). Chorus with flute, sitar and piano is super. Wonder how the song is shot!

Omana Penne- One of the best in the album. Benny Dayal & Kalyani Menon have lent voices. The auto-tune work in Benny's singing is just beautiful. The song is even more beautiful when Kalyani Menon comes in with her singing in Malayalam. With a little suppressed Nadhaswaram backing the song, it sounds mellifluous. Benny's style of style singing in the song is good as usual.

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa- My favorite track. Only Rahman can compose something like this. Awesome chords. I feel like flying every time i listen to it. Karthik has sung it. This is one of the best track in the album.

Every song in this album is really good. But some people feel that the album is more adhered to Hollywood and western style of music. Maybe its because the film might've needed that type of music. Rahman's music is always good but its best when its heard with the video. So lets all wait for the movie to release. After all, its A.R.Rahman's album. What do you expect other than awe-inspiring music?

Rahman Made History..!

Yes. He made history. He made the whole India feel proud. Being the fourth Indian to win the precious Oscars (First was Bhanu Athaiya for the movie "Gandhi" in 1982 in the Best Costume Design category, Second was Bengali filmmaker Satyajit Ray in 1992, Third was Resul Pookutty in Best film sound mixing category in 2009, just before Rahman), He also holds the record of the First Indian to ever win two Oscars.

I, like billion other fans of Rahman, wished him luck and prayed for him to win the most coveted Oscars. It was said that the results were to be announced on 22nd. Yesterday, I was at my friend's place, curious to know when the Oscars results will be announced. From the news channel, it was confirmed that the Oscars will be telecasted live on Star Movies exclusively. We (school mates) had a small get together meet at my friend's place but wretchedly we had no source to know about the Oscars cuz we had no TV in his room. If we had to watch the TV, we would have to wake up his parents who were sleeping in his house down stairs (Actually it was two floors where we took the top). I was then informed by my friends that the Oscars will be telecasted tomorrow morning at 6 30 am. We all went to bed sooner than we supposed to, just to save some energy to watch the Oscars live.

Rahman's 'Jai Ho' and 'O Saya' were nominated for the Best Original Song and he was also nominated for the Best Original Score. Every single Indian wished Rahman to win atleast one Oscar. Even me. I never thought he'd win one for the Original Score. When the results for the Best Original Score was announced, I jumped off the couch and whistled so loud that all my neighbours came running to see what happened. I believe it would have been a reaction given by everyone who was watching the Oscars live. Even for a person who was not a fan of Rahman, would have become his fan by the speech he gave with the award in his hand. He was so humble, unprejudiced. The best part was that, even at the Oscars he uttered the most used line by him in tamil "Ellam Pugazhum Iraivanukke". Soon after recieving the Oscar for the Best Original Score, he also won another Oscar for the Best Original Song 'Jai Ho'. But before the results for original score were announced, he performed 'O saya' and also performed 'Jai Ho' soon after 'Down To Earth' by singer John Legend. While Rahman was singing 'Jai Ho', John Legend joined with him singing 'Down To Earth' and the combo was really good. While recieving the award he said "All my life i've had choice of hate and love, and chose love, and im here. God bless". Again i drew all my neighbours attention by whistling with all my breath.



Rahman has etched his name on the walls of Indian history. Histroy that Indians wished to happen for a long time. Rahman made it happen.

There was also another Indian who won the Oscars before Rahman recieved his- Resul Pookutty for Sound Mixing. In the order by which the Oscars were announced, he was the thrid Indian to receive an Oscar. He was equally previliged even though he was one among the three (the other two who recieved the award along with him were Ian taap, Richard pryke) who won the award.

I personally feel that this was not Rahman's best composition. He has done many outstanding compositions which was not globally recognized. I wonder what would Rahman get if all his songs were put to light at the International grounds. After the winning of 2 Oscar awards, im sure that he will be Globaly recognized and has a favourable chance to write scores for more International movies and to win more Oscars.

Today was a great day for India and for all Rahman fans. I felt very happy for Rahman as if he were my own brother. Kudos to Rahman. I wish him more and more success in future. Jai Ho.

Happy Bithday Rahman..! You're the Man of the World..!

Today, the 6th of January, is the birthday of India's most notable music composer A.R.Rahman.. My admiration and love for Rahman is echt and can be measured to the length equal to the stretch of the blue sky.. I always wonder how he composes songs that eventually becomes a hit.. Does he have any magical powers.? Like when he stike the keys of his piano with his dextorous fingers, music conjures up that gives him unfailling sucess..? World knows he is a hard worker.. But still.. And for a person to be so highly admired, respected, envied, how could he yet be so humble and differential.? Personalities who have achieved nothing close to Rahman, make excessive claim to what they do, or what they are, or what they've become, show off shit.. But how could Rahman, after achievng so much in life, be so down-to-earth.? Not only his amicable charater that helped him fight through wars, his talent that had been revealed to the world with his first movie Roja.. His way of compositions are unique and easily adored by listeners of all age.. Let his legendary musical works continue to give birth to lot of hit songs to which, we fans, are looking forward to..

On his 43rd Birthday, I would like to wish him my hearty wishes on his birthday through my blog..
